Today I'm sharing a typical Jain dish 'Besan' or 'Lapta'. Besan is often cooked in almost every Jain house in evening meal as it is simple & easy to cook.
What is required???
1 cup gram flour
1 tablespoon oil
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 tablespoon cilantro (dhaniya)
1/2 teaspoonCarom seeds (ajwain)
1 pinch asafoetida
1 tomato
1 green chilli
1 1/2 tablespoon ginger
Salt to taste
Water as required
How to Cook
Take a frying pan and put 1 tablespoon oil in it. Upon heating add cumin seeds, carom seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder & a pinch of asafoetida. Stir it with a laddle and add 2 cups of water. Let it boil.
Meanwhile take a bowl and put gram flour in it, add some water to make slightly thin batter.
Then mix the batter in the frying pan with continuously stirring in the boiling water. Stir it well to avoid lumps.
Now put 1 tomato, 1 green chilli & ginger in a jar & grind it . Then mix it in the frying pan to give it spicy flavor.
Mix well and leave it to cook for 2-3 minutes after adding tomato & chilli. Besan is now ready to serve.
Besan is mostly liked with rice. Tastes best when served hot.
